Treasure Hunter
TreasureHunter is a system design by myself and my four teammates to encourage the re-use of used goods from thrift stores. Using the Contextual Inquiry method, we studied the issue of consumer goods going to waste in a community, even as new ones are shipped in. Our paper has been accepted to the ACM-CHI 2009 Student Paper Competition.
The unique thing about TreasureHunter is the use of “crowdsourcing” to help shoppers find items they’re looking for by engaging a type of thrift store shopper, whom we call a treasure hunter, who views the thrift store as much as a hobby as a way to buy goods, to search for items requested by other members of the TreasureHunter online community.[/column]
Change We Can Visualize
The purpose of this project is to visualize the relationship between political contributions from interest groups and the voting patterns of their recipients. In addition to developing a visualization, my group also plans to enter our (as of yet nonexistent) application in the Sunlight Foundation’s Apps for America contest.[/column]
Evaluation of BlueStream Media Asset Management System
Myself and two others are evaluating the usability of the University of Michigan’s web-based media asset repository, BlueStream. We have conducted six user interviews, completed a competative analysis of three other Media Asset Managemnt products, and performed a heuristic evaluation. Will be also be conducting tests with users.[/column]
“Magic Bus” GPS Bus Tracking System
Magic Bus is the web-based GPS tracking system for the University of Michigan busses. It has become extremely popular among U of M students.
I designed the front page (“Line View”), wrote a ton of Javascript, and assembled and installed many of the GPS hardware packages in the busses.[/column]
